I am loving discovering companies that can add something that bit different to your ‘green’ wedding. You don’t have to be having an eco-conscious wedding to use them, but they would be the perfect fit you did. This month I would like to introduce Olly from The Little Green Ice Cream Machine. We ‘met’ on Twitter during a very busy #weddinghour (Wednesdays 9-10pm, hosted by The Wedding Affair). It is a great place to talk with vendors and for companies to meet like-minded companies. He agreed to be our vendor of the month. So let’s learn a bit more about him and his great company.
Eco-Wedding Ideas
So, who are you and what do you do?
My name is Olly and I run the eco-friendly ice cream company, The Little Green Ice Cream Machine. We are a little bit different from the classic ice cream bike you might be used to. Our ice cream machine is a vintage 1950’s work trike made by the British company Pashley, who still to this day make the same design of the bike. “Little Green” is available for weddings, events or festivals throughout the South West. We serve only the best Devon clotted cream ice cream from our friends at Langage Farm. Their wonderful ice cream is delicious and there are over 45 different flavours to choose from. The difficult bit is not finding a flavour you like but trying to choose the flavours you want! Langage Farm is the only carbon neutral dairy in the UK. They use an anaerobic digestor to safely and cleanly process rubbish, into safe, usable, clean energy.
Why do you consider yourself so eco-friendly?
The Little Green Ice Cream Machine is run by a solar panel which provides enough power to keep our ice cream lovely and cold all day. We also use biodegradable tubs, napkins and spoons that are made from recycled materials.
What has your feedback been from clients? I met a lovely couple called Lara and Dan during their beautiful wedding at Maker Heights in Torpoint, Cornwall. All the guests were so kind with their comments on the day and Lara took the time to send a lovely email and a Facebook post after their big day. “We just wanted to say a big thank you for coming along and simply being there on Sunday, we had soooo many compliments about you and the fact that the concept was so new to all of our guests. We were so happy with the choice of flavours but just wish we’d had more for ourselves haha!!”
I also served at the wonderful wedding of Stacey and Chris at the Borringdon golf club in Plymouth. “I wanted to say a huge thank you to you, everyone loved you and the ice cream bike. We were so happy with everything you did for us. Although we were having a chuckle about how hyper the kiddies were.”
Which wedding stands out most to you? I have been to many great weddings over the last year, all unique and all of them extremely fun. The one that stands out was that of Olly and Lucy in Whimple. They had a mini-festival in a field at their parent’s house. The invites were festival passes and they had live music, a bouncy castle, a photo booth, a beer tent and a hog roast. They even had a dedicated camping area. It was decorated beautifully and there was a great party atmosphere. Everyone was extremely relaxed and the ice cream went down like a treat.
What is the biggest challenge in running your own business? The biggest challenge is not eating all the ice cream. Also, the long hours working whilst at events.
What is your favourite ice cream flavour? Langage Farm’s, Thunder and Lightening, it’s devon clotted cream vanilla with chunks of wonderful honeycomb running through it. I had to keep it under lock and key from my recently pregnant wife!
Big thanks to Olly and congrats on your new addition! I wish I lived closer to Devon so I could sample some of this ice cream, sounds divine. I think this idea is great for a wedding. Have you done something similar or can you recommend a unique service that you had at your wedding? I would love to hear from you!
Right, I am off to raid the freezer……I am going to be disappointed!
