Here, last but by no means least, are two fab photographers who are offering their services to a luck couple entering our competition this month. The winner will win a engagement shoot with one of 4 photographers. This week we meet Eva Photography and Jay Anderson Photography and learn what makes them tick. Will one of these two be the photographer you choose, if you win?!!!!!
Describe your relationship with your camera, how did you meet, where have you been and what would you most like to do together?
I met my first camera in the age of 16, good old film Zenith, that taught me all the important things about photography. He still looks over from the shelf in my room. Now I hang out with couple of different cameras and being very sociable, we mostly spend time with people at the weddings and other events.
How do your clients normally find you?
These days it’s mostly Facebook and referrals.
What makes a good engagement shoot?
No matter where we are and how not photogenic couple might think they are, as long as we all relax, treat it as a fun day out we can make it look amazing. Just don’t think about the camera and pictures, focus on your wonderful other half and the fact you’re getting married soon! The rest is my job.
Where do you like to shoot your couples, in the photographic sense of course!
Anywhere really! I always tell them not to overthink the location, to go where they would go on a weekend day out together. If they love nature, we go to the park to forest, if their favourite thing is to explore the city, this is what we’re gonna do. I always enjoy all of these adventures. Even shooting at South Bank for the 47th time can be really fun and different.
What has been your most memorable wedding?
Garden party wedding in Paris last summer with Holly and Xavier. Totally lovely couple, amazing location and just the most beautiful day with a garden party and Seine boat trip, that we ended with drinking champagne near the Eiffel Tower at midnight.
What makes you get out of bed every morning?
My cat most of the times:) And my job is a constant adventure, one day I shoot a high tea event, the next a crazy cocktail competition and beautiful wedding on the weekend. It’s never boring!
Our final fab photographer is Jay Anderson! Welcome MR A, do fill us in on what makes you tick!
Describe your relationship with your camera, how did you meet your camera, where have you been and what would you most like to do together?
I have 4 cameras that I shoot with for weddings, 2 digital and 1 35mm film camera & 1 medium format film camera. I have a special relationship with all of them, as I used them in all of different ways and for different parts of the day. For example my medium format camera is my go to for beautiful portraits of the couple and especially brides. Whilst my 35mm film camera is great for the details of the day, like your flowers, your table settings and stationery. My cameras go everywhere I go for weddings and engagements, and recently we all went to Morocco for a wedding in the hills above Marrakech. The beautiful scenery and the settings for this wedding was perfect and a photographer’s heaven. All my cameras got a really good workout over the four days I was out there.
How do your clients normally find you?
I would say around 85% of my clients have been through referrals either from past clients, family, friends or also through my friends within the wedding industry. The other 15% or so come from either google search, Facebook and also Instagram – which is becoming more and more popular with my clients. I am trying to turn the numbers around so I am not over-reliant on referrals and would love people to find me by coming across my work and loving it.
What makes a good engagement shoot?
The way I like to do engagement shoots, is when both myself and the couple are relaxed in each other’s company. I usually start of with a chat and a walk, this is when I might take a few shots of them talking to me and each other. I want my couple to feel comfortable in front of the camera, so I just make it an extension of our conversation. Once we have chatted for a little bit, I will usually get the couple to pose for me and we can walk around a bit more find spots and places that might be special to them or even somewhere that is completely new to them and that might make a great photo. I don’t stick to one certain place and I will travel all over the country and the world for an engagement shoot. I like to explore and capture the world with my couples, and only sticking to my surroundings for all my shoots just doesn’t do it for me.
Where do you like to shoot your couples, in the photographic sense of course!
I have shot engagement shots everywhere from local parks, urban graffiti streets to hills overlooking the River Thames in Buckinghamshire.
What has been your most memorable wedding?
So many to name, but I would say at the moment it has been the wedding I shot over in Ireland in early June of this year. It was on an amazing estate between the Cities of Waterford and Cork. I was working with the most beautiful couple who treated me and the team as guests. We sat with the guests at dinner and after we stopped shooting we partied with the wedding guests until the early hours. It was a magical weekend as we started shooting on the Thursday and ended with a relaxed post wedding BBQ at the estate on the Sunday. But I did just shoot a wedding in Morocco, so watch this space…
What makes you get out of bed every morning?
Apart from my coffee from my favourite mug, I would say my family. I have two teenage kids (I know I don’t look old enough) that are my world and I am so proud of them and want they have achieved. Also my partner, who is my rock and my biggest fan. She is always telling me how great I am and to keep going and not to give up. She is also a great proof reader as my grammar is terrible.
BIG thanks to all our prize givers for offering such awesome prizes and for taking the time to be part of my series of blogs.
Do make sure you enter the comptition. More details HERE. Good Luck xx
